New! Comparing two ClearCase UCM baselines utility

Posted on: April 24, 2008

In the last days I made a new utility, “CompBL”, which compares baselines easily. I made it because I’ve needed some featuers which are not included in ‘diffbl’ ClearCase command and the ‘browse baseline’ option.

CompBL main features are:

  • Filtering internal activities (“rebase” and “deliver” activities)
  • Reports can contain the activity’s files and versions (change-set)
  • A textual report ted into another document (e.g. “Release Notes” document)
  • Compare projects and streams content (If you have a component which has baselines on two streams or projects)
  • Supports ClearCase ClearQuest UCM-enabled integration

    Prerequisites:

    • ClearCase: Client or server, LT, MultiSite, Version 2003.06 (v6) or higher
    • Operating Systems: Windows 2000, XP or higher
    • If your ClearCase server is any kind of UNIX or Linux, and you have a Windows client which share the same ClearCase registry server (“Cross Platform”) – You can use this utility also

CompBL is free. installation is done automatically. No customization is needed.

    I love it!
As a team leader, I find this utility very very useful! I can put its report into my mails and docs.

    Thank you very much!

Looks like a useful utility, unfortunately it only finds one or our PVOB – and that’s a ‘playground’ VOB.

This may well be a multisite issue, as the playground VOB is actually the only PVOB created and mastered at our site. All the other PVOBs were created on other sites and are multisite replicas here.

They’re all hosted on the same VOB server, in the same regions, etc, etc. The only difference is the multisite issues as far as I can tell.

    Mark.

You are right. ClearCase MultiSite is not supported yet. I’ll add this feature in the next release.

Your tool looks very interesting, but I can’t seem to get it to work. I’ve downloaded it and tried running it on both my client (Windows XP) and the server (Windows 2003) running ClearCase 7.0.0.1. I get an error message “No PVOB is found!”. When I click on OK an the application opens, there are no choices under “Select PVOB”. I looked through the manual, and didn’t see any required setup. What am I missing here?

Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation 🙂 Anyway … nice blog to visit.

    cheers, Magneto!!

Very cool! I was looking for something similar, but I ended up throwing a Perl/Tk gui together to handle it. If you’re interested, I’ll send you a copy

    Hi

I installed the compbl, but it doesn’t see any of the vobs.
    What’s missing?

    Ronni

This is great work and very useful. Did exactly what I wanted it to do.
    Great job.

    hi
i can not download it from web, could you send a copy to me by email?
    thanks

This product has potential, but my baseline names are long and the field sizes are too small to display the whole name so i can read it.
